There is a definite difference between a democracy and a republic, and that difference is the source of its authority. In a democracy the authority is based on strength of number, strength of force. In a republic the authority is a set of principles, unchanging by the whim of a simple majority, and providing an enduring stability.
A democracy is simply the deterioration of a republic -- it is a lazy man's form of government. It requires no effort and no research of candidates or long-term issues; it is simply based on what a majority of the people feel at that given time. A democracy is what Founding Father Benjamin Rush called a "mobocracy." -David Barton, Keys to Good Government, pg. 7
As Republicans we should vigorously promote and defend the constitutionally mandated form of government our Founding Fathers gave us - a republic.

There will be an Open House next Wednesday, September 1st, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at our new GOP office, 350 S US Highway 10, in East St. Cloud.  (It's on the second floor, above Duffy Engineering.)

We'll have food, fun and fellowship.  Please bring something to eat to share with your fellow activists and we'll see you there!
